The Story of Math Collection

If you are like most people, just thinking about math, let alone the idea of actually sitting through a series of documentaries about the subject that haunted you through your academic career (until you were old enough to stop taking it), will make you break out in hives. It is those people, more than the ones who actually enjoy math, who will probably enjoy this box0set the most, thanks to the intelligent, viewer friendly way it explains it’s subject and the enormously insightful and entertaining presentation by host Oxford professor Marcus du Sautoy. The key to the shows is that du Sautoy isn’t trying to explain math problems to you lecturing you about theories you will never remember – or need – again in your life. Instead, he takes us outside the classroom to show you how math explains and enhances the world around us, from the history of numbers and what they mean to the history of civilization to the hidden mathematical patterns underlying nature. His is the ultimate appreciation of the subject and you feel honored to share it with him.
